Why do my eggs crack when I boil them?

Elva: "Well, you probably boil them too long."

You mean your eggs don't crack?

Elva: "No, you can't boil eggs for very long. They crack and get rubbery inside."

Okay, so here's what Elva says to do:
Put your eggs in a pan with cold water. Salt the water well (we don't salt it), bring it
to a boil, uncovered, rolling boil. Then turn it off, take it off the burner and cover
it, and let it stand for 20 minutes.

Then pour off the hot water, and cool with cold water. There's your hard-boiled
eggs. Not cracked, not rubbery, not green inside.
