A treat at Christmas time.
Give chewy caramels as a gift!
1 cup of butter
         plus enough to grease the cooling pan

2-1/4 cups packed
of brown sugar
1 can (14 ounces) of sweetened condensed milk
1 cup
of dark corn syrup

Line a 15x10-inch pan with foil and grease the foil with butter. In a heavy
saucepan over medium heat, melt
one cup (2 sticks) of butter. Add the brown
sugar, milk and corn syrup. Cook and stir until candy thermometer reads 250

degrees F
(hard-ball stage).

Pour into prepared pan (do not scrape saucepan). Cool completely before cutting.
This yields about 2-1/2 pounds.

Note: This is the recipe offered by Taste of Home, and I followed it with good
results. But next time I will try a 9x13 pan to make the pieces thicker.
